So so so good. Everything hit. The carne asada had a great char flavor and despite being a thin cut it which usually is so dry, it was so juicy. The rice and beans are so flavorful as well. It also comes with guca and pico which I love for the freshness. The enchiladas with red sauce was such a big plate. Great flavor and comes with lots of lettuce, cheese, sour cream and avocado which really balances it out. The pastor tacos were also really good. Also got horchatas and wow those are huge just get the small bc large is the size of a 7 eleven slurpee. Total for soooo much food (we were starving so we ordered a lotttt) was $25pp. Be warned tho a Mariachi band might come in and play really loud…

Tacos Matamoros is one of the most authentic and tastiest spots in the area. The food is full of flavor, the prices are fair, and the atmosphere is pure Sunset Park energy. Yes, it gets loud — but that’s part of the charm! Between the flowing margaritas, the laughter, and the surprise visits from mariachis, it’s not just a restaurant — it’s an experience. Perfect for big families or anyone craving a true local vibe. And seriously — don’t leave without trying at least one margarita.

After always eating tacos from the trucks, decided to try restaurant taco. Tacos were good but I guess our expectations were too high. Honestly the taco trucks on 5th ave might have the edge. Nachos were really good, especially the green sauce, a real good kick.

Food at matamoros never dissapoints. We had the Carnitas, Al pastor, Steak, tripe and tongue tacos and a carne asada. They were all delicious and fresh. We also had beer, soda and margaritas. the Margaritas were good(frozen ones) but hardly tasted as if they had liquor(tequila)added. We brought a cake from the Cuban Bakery near by, La Gran Via. Our waitress was very accommodating. She saw the cake on the table stored the cake in the fridge, sang happy Birthday with some coworkers and got us plates and coffee. Their customer service is top notch.

First time visiting. Glad for the local recommendation. Loved the atmosphere - immediately transported to a different vibe when you enter thru the doors. We got the pork chop platter, tacos and torta. The family cleaned their plates. Can’t wait to try the ceviche next time and other items on the menu. Friendly and kind staff - mainly spoke Spanish but will be able to accommodate basic service in English. We knew enough to communicate in Spanish.

Very impressed with the attention to detail of this restaurant except during morning hours. Staff is very hospitable, professional and always attentive. Food came fast. Consistent flavor and sizes that I remember from last year— when I first ate here! Shrimp cocktail- sauce is light, nice chipotle kick, doesnt taste tomatoey Molcajete, will need to ask for less chicken but it tastes grilled and charred like a bbq, fresh and tasty I highly recommend this place! Just not on the morning shifts. Morning shifts are slow, confused and do not know good service. Afternoon and evening are good
